Why did you pursue RFI’s Student Serviceship experience?
I had a genuine interest in rural Nebraska and its workings. There aren’t many better ways of truly experiencing rural America. I want to work alongside rural folks and hear their opinions about topics that pertain to America and its place in the world. I believe that rural societies are the backbone to any country as they are performing the primordial tasks that the rest of the country usually isn’t willing to dip its foot into. I would also like to give them the chance to experience my culture and where I come from. This would be a great chance for me to learn more about rural America/Nebraska and for rural Nebraskans to learn about culture outside of their country through me.

What do you hope to learn and how do you hope to be different from this experience?
I hope to expand my worldview, understand and empathize with folks who are different from the average sub-urban Nebraskan. I want to focus on the roots of their thought-process and deconstruct their means of communication, in a way where I can work effectively along-side them, thereby partially preparing me for life in unexpected parts of the world.

What is your favorite aspect of Nebraska? Why?
The people! They are almost always warm, kind and inviting.
